CRUISE Day 19– Tuesday, August 6th – on our way home!

We fueled up and left Key West at 11:30 am to an Atlantic that was mildly choppy with approximately 2’ – 3’ waves. There was a storm in the distance, which is par for the course with us because we seem to always leave Key West in a storm, going into a storm or running away from a storm! It stayed over on the Port side and finally went around behind us to hit Key West no doubt. The water started to calm and we were feeling pretty good about things at this point. However, again as per usual, that didn’t last for long and the seas kicked up again to a windy 3’ – 5’ chop all across the Florida Bay! We figured that once we reached Marco Island things would calm down because we would be closer to land and it would be later in the day – wrong again. All the way from Cape Romano at the tip of Marco Island until we reached well beyond Fort Myers Beach, the waves were even higher than they were going across Florida Bay - and never ending. What were we thinking when we thought we could go the whole trip with perfect seas? As a result of the high waves and rolling seas, there weren’t any pictures taken, to say the least. Salty was great and sat with me on the inside stern seat that backs up against the helm for hours without complaining or wanting to move around. We turned into San Carlos Bay and up toward the Caloosahatchee River channel past Sanibel and “home”….. we at last had calm water. Salty was then able to jump on his stern seat closest to the swim platform where he could watch the boats and “smell” for home. We arrived safely at our dock in a light drizzle around 6:00 pm. On our trip, Salty was always excited to see the new docks and Marinas “with dry land”. However, when we finally reached home, he literally leaped off the boat, ran up to “his grass” and tore around “his yard” doing the Wheaten Whirl… or the “Bum Tuck Boogie” as we sometimes call it….. no doubt about it – he was home! After his energy spurt he went to his all time favorite place – THE POOL! Thank the good Lord – finally - “his pool”…. all that time without a pool to lounge in must have been torture for that pool old Salty dog. We did it – we made the trip – we were all happy to be home (and planning the next trip)!
