CRUISE Day 7 - Thursday, July 25, 2002
Left Lighthouse Point at 10:30 pm
and went south past the Pompano Yacht Basin. Pompano has thousands of condos, smaller homes and some large homes as well, all mixed together. We passed so many different styles of homes – very much “the good, the bad and the ugly”…. The ugly being a little concrete house – guess they are always ready for a hurricane! Entering into Fort Lauderdale we thought – THERE IS WAY TOO MUCH MONEY HERE!!!! Just awesome…the boats (ships?) and homes along the way. Too many to take pictures of all of them. We docked at the
Bahia Mar Marina in Fort Lauderdale earlier than usual, around 3:00
pm, but it was a “destination”, with great facilities and close to Fort Lauderdale Beach. It started to pour rain and blow quite hard so we waited it out along the outer
t-pier before actually docking in our slip. We walked to the Bahia Cabana restaurant for dinner and it was relatively average, but still nice. We will be staying here a few days.
Marina Day - Friday, July 26th Salty and I went to Fort Lauderdale Beach early in the morning, which was a good thing because it is not as “dog friendly” here as in the other Marinas we have docked. No dogs are allowed on the beach, actually, they even have signs posted along the sidewalk that say “no domestic animals allowed on the sidewalk”, let alone on the beach! We snuck onto the beach before the “security” guys could catch us but didn’t go back again after that. There was way too much concrete at this Marina for Salty – too hot on the old paws! Barry and I went to the Tiki Bar at the Oasis Café on Fort Lauderdale Beach after a very short walk on the beach – way too hot for us too. We have voted “Craig”, the Bartender, the best Bartender on our trip (so far) – a very entertaining “brother” with a million stories who has lived in a million places and done a million things – get the picture? We watched the people and activity on the beach while having a couple of cocktails. We walked to Pusser’s Restaurant that night for dinner and as usual, had a wonderful time.
