Day 15, Saturday June 21st
In
the morning, Bear took off on "The Harley" to check
email and bring the scooter back before we head off to the next
Marina at Treasure Cay. We left Marsh Harbour at 9:00 am before
the weather kicked up, however it didn't take long before the wind
AND the storm clouds started to roll toward us. Although, when the
sky is black in the distance with the sun behind us, it makes the
water glow a gorgeous bright aqua color. However, this beautiful
sight quickly changes the further into the storm you go - then
everything is black. Speaking of "colors", I thought
Salty was starting to look a little "green around the
gills" himself at this point. Just as we saw Treasure Cay
ahead of us, the rain started to pour and we found ourselves, once
again, scrambling to get the bimini extension up so we wouldn't
get soaked. We soon discovered that the best way to approach this
would be to put the extension on BEFORE the rain starts to pelt us
- no kidding Sherlock! So, there we were again, bobbing around in
the rain waiting for it to die down somewhat so we can at least
find the channel into Treasure Cay. We saw a couple of larger
fishing boats headed past us and seeing as how there is only one
place they could be going, we followed along into the channel and
docked quite easily at Treasure Cay Marina. This was the first
time I was able to say I was glad I brought my wind-breaker along
because it was kind of nice to have even a little bit of
protection from the rain. We arrived at Treasure Cay Marina at
1:30 pm in slightly soggy conditions; however, it obviously
wasn't too bad because there were two guys… I'm sure they were
blasted… swimming in the middle of the channel going away from
the docks! We went over to Spinnaker's Restaurant on the patio
overlooking the Marina for munchies and then wandered over to the
beach only a few minutes away. The beach is absolutely gorgeous -
in fact, National Geographic voted it among the top 10 beaches in
the world and we could see why, if the sun had been shining, the 3
½ miles of bright white sand would have been sparkling. We knew
for sure we'd be back on the beach again with Salty - he would
love this! We had dinner at Spinnaker's as well, but this time in
the much more upscale "inside" of the restaurant and
once again, had a great dinner; we will surely NOT be losing
weight on this trip, to say the least.

Day 16, Sunday June 22nd
Rain,
rain, go away! Yes, there it is again….still raining. We had
planned on heading out around 11:00 am but asked to stay a few
more hours until the weather cleared up, which didn't look very
promising with the huge thunderclouds looming in the sky in the
exact direction we were headed. It was pouring around 10:30 am so
we went down into the cabin where I whipped up some more coffee,
put on the bacon, eggs and toast and we watched a movie - just
like being at home on a Sunday morning! Of course, I threw in a
couple of eggs for Salty to cheer him up on such a gloomy day.
When the rain subsided, we took Salty over to the beach and yes…
he absolutely loved it! As soon as he saw the surf, he charged
right in, swam around then ran and whirled up and down the beach.
The sand on this beach is like flour - thick, soft and white - mix
it with salt water and a Wheaten's long hair and beard and you
have a real mess. At one point Salty's face and tongue were just
caked with sand - gross! I tried to open his mouth and pour
bottled water in there but he was having no part of that - he just
thought I was playing with him but then Barry was finally able to
coax him over to drink out of his hand. We went back to the boat,
hosed (and I mean HOSED) us all down and we got ready to leave. We
left Treasure Cay at 3:00 pm and the weather was pretty
much the same as it was in the morning so we just battened down
the hatches and off we went. Like Marsh Harbour, Treasure Cay was
holding their International Billfish Tournament this week - nasty
weather to be out in and it was supposed to be like this most of
the week. Of course, as we are going out of the "most shallow
- most narrow" channel yet, in comes this HUGE yacht named
the "Inspiration"! Barry says, "oh great, only I
would have the Queen Mary in this channel with me"! The sky
was overcast but the water was like glass, which was a definite
bonus. Once again, as we get closer to Green Turtle Cay and Black
Sound Marina, the sky turns pitch black and we stop to put the
extension up - brilliant idea! No sooner was the top up, the sky
opened up and poured on us for about an hour…the Captain was not
amused. At least it let up enough and then stopped long enough to
find the channel and we docked at Black Sound around 5:00 pm.
As we were entering the channel, there was a "wall of
rain" off in the distance and quickly coming our way. We
managed to get docked and hook up to power and water just in time
before it pelted down again. We were given a slip on the outside
at the end of the dock and overlooking quite a big Bay where
sailboats were moored, which was quite nice. Barry arranged to
have a golf cart with "all-terrain" wheels delivered
this time - "A Monster Truck" instead of "A
Harley" - woo hoo! Too cool…it's delivered right to the
dock, although the rental company was named "T & A
Rentals"… I just had to wonder what else did they rent????
The dock master Chris gave us the names of some "good"
places to eat and we went to his favorite that night - Laura's
Kitchen. It looked exactly the way one would imagine a Laura's
Kitchen would look - nothing fancy, just a little cottage-type
house with home cooking. It was indeed good food but they had no
dessert - imagine - so we were forced to go back to the boat for
an after dinner drink of Grand Marnier.
